As the sun sets on 2019, we wish to extend a heartfelt word of thanks to the many wonderful guests who joined us in helping dreams come true for the communities that mean so much to us.
The community development levies received from guests assist us to empower local communities through various upliftment programs; including University scholarship funding, supply of medical equipment, stationery and local community transport. Through skills training that we have the pleasure of providing, we help improve knowledge and increase employment scope. In addition to these enriching contributions, we also provide the village next to the lodge as well as the adjacent government agricultural centre with electricity free of charge.
Just a few of 2019’s highlights:
We installed a borehole and water tank at Maliyazwa village in Kasika with the generous contribution of funds from one of our guests, Bob Bove. This project was for the aid of the Libuku and Munyemi families which has approximately 40 people living in this village. These families now no longer have to walk too far to collect water, as they now have access to fresh water.
The Impalila Football Association received soccer jerseys for their local teams. The beaming faces and exuberant sense of unity and spirit was a joy to witness. A very kind donation of 20 soccer balls from the Hockenberger family only cemented the excitement further. Read more on that story here.
Through generous cash donations from guests onboard the Zambezi Queen we have been able to donate a new boat engine to the community in partnership with the CCFA. This access to a functional boat has opened up access to transporting staff, conducting negotiations with neighbouring villages and enabled key community members to patrol the waterways and ward off poachers.
